"Well," I said stumbling over my words, "my partner and I have come here to Savannah to start our very own
dance studio. We have heard that dance instructors are in demand down here." I decided to tell the truth this
time. I am so sick of living a lie. Telling people that I am something that I am not is just not as appealing as it
used to be. I had to hurry up and tell Rico before he started saying something different. "Will you please excuse me.
I really have to go speak with my friend." I politely exited and scurried over to where Rico was sitting.
"Rico. Excuse me. I really need to speak with you," I interrupted.
"Lizzy," Rico said rudely, "I am in the middle of a conversation. I want you to meet Pat. She is interested in
taking some dance lessons with us as soon as we get our studio going." He winked at me and gave me one
of his smiles. "Lizzy, what do you think?"
"I think that is wonderful," I said kind of shocked. Rico never fails to amaze me. It is like he always knows what I
am thinking all the time. I guess if you have worked together for as long as we have, things just fall into place.
This really makes me happy. He is finally acknowledging that we are getting older and it is time to slow down. Knowing
Rico, though, he is probably going to try to use these dance lessons as some kind of scam. I don't care. Just as long
as I get to do what I love to do- dance!
Pat seemed nice enough. She looked kind of trashy, though. Why did she have to look at me as if she was competing with
me for Rico? She kept scooting her bar stool closer and closer to him. She could scoot as close as she wanted, but there
was no way Rico was going to fall for her little act. The way she sucked on that olive about made me puke. Who was she
kidding anyway?
I put my arm around Rico's shoulders and told him that it was about time that we should go. It was getting pretty late and
I was exhausted. As Rico agreed and stood up, Pat grabbed his hand and pulled his ear down to her lips. "Please don't go,"
she whispered. "I promise I will make the rest of the evening worth your while."
"It was nice to meet you, Pat, but Lizzy and I really do need to be going. We have a big day ahead of us," Rico said
as he yanked his hand back.
Rico led me to the front desk where he made a reservation for two rooms. He is always such a gentleman. The man
behind the counter welcomed us to Savannah. At the same time he warned us about the serial killer going around.
Supposedly, some drifter has been spotted in the Savannah area. Rico did'nt seem rattled. He and I have led a
life of crime for so long. Why should a serial killer be any different? The man said he goes by the name of Stone.
Just our luck! We end up in a town where there is a serial killer running around. Oh, well! I felt safe for the
time being in The Dandelion Inn. We were finally going to get some sleep! I will worry about this Stone character
tomorrow.
