It wasn't that I was a bad student. I rarely missed class. As a matter of fact, I was in the top tier of the class at George Washington University. And had been accepted into law school at Princeton. I was going to utilize my natural disposition to fight by working in public-interest law for the underprivileged.
I enjoyed helping the underdog. I didn't need money. I had a middle-class family to lean on, and they had always provided for me. My best friend Sara on the other hand, was filthy rich, and so was her family. I met Sara in a freshman Political Science class. We became fast friends and with our contrasting looks, people noticed us wherever we went. Sara had copper skin and soft hazel eyes, and I was honey-colored skin, deep red hair, and blue eyes. We dressed differently, too. Sara was conservative and I was just the opposite - flamboyant.
I had to pick up Sara and head to the airport by 2:45. As I drove through DC, I looked at some of the monuments, and wondered how the trip would turn out. Maybe I could shake Sara up a little and get her to party. God knows, I had been working on her long enough. The 4 D's of my creed for fun were: Drinking, Dating, Dancing, and Demoralizing Republicans. Sara wasn't like some of my other friends, like Raven, who was a successful photographer, or Coco, who was a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist for the Miami Herald. Sara was still had to find her road in life. But she was the best friend a girl could have.
There was Sara waiting for her. I shouted at her, "Hey girl! Come on Key West is waiting for us!"
