JUST ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE
Emmy awakens the next morning and begins the day as always. After a thirty-minute jog around the neighborhood, she spends a few minutes weight lifting to tone and firm her body. Next, a quick shower, before she dresses in her usual navy blue Dockers and light blue pilot shirt. She runs out the door, heading for the airport to meet a couple of students before her only scheduled business flight early in the afternoon. Ray, her first student of the day, meets her at the airport at 7 a.m. sharp. He's somewhat older than Emmy and manages one of the Kroger grocery stores in Savannah. He is one of four of Emmy's students currently working on their instrument rating. Ray has a lot of natural talent. Emmy has always been amazed that she need only explain the procedures to him once and he understands them completely.
Ray's lesson is over by 9 a.m. and Emmy's next student won't arrive until 10 a.m. She leaves the airport hastily, rushes by her house, and picks up her dog, Saucey, and heads for NatureScapes. As Saucey pulls Emmy into the store, Anli is busy marking down the prices on a rack of Patagoonia sports wear. Emmy quickly goes over Saucey's feeding schedule and other little peculiarities that are unique to her beloved friend. As she leaves the store, she trips over the rug just inside the door nearly crashing through the glass entryway. Anli laughs once the door closes behind Emmy and says to Saucey, "She'd be ok, if she'd just slow down a bit."
Emmy rushes back to the airport and arrives just at 10 a.m. to discover that Rico has called and canceled his private pilot lesson while she was gone. Rico is Emmy's newest student and she's not sure about this character. He seems nice enough, but she feels uneasy around him - even in her plane. It's not unusual for Emmy to feel uncomfortable around people, but for her to feel uneasy about someone when she's on her own turf is uncommon.
"Oh, well," Emmy thinks to herself a bit relieved. "I can go ahead and get ready for my flight to Tri."
