Adam pulled the Harley into a parking spot along the beach, looking for somewhere to go to get these horrible thoughts off of his mind. He had a sense of something wrong, something unsettling. The scene was serene enough; the in-line skaters were patrolling the beach as usual, surfers were getting ready to grab a few curls, and the tide rolled in, in no particular hurry today. But something dangerous was hiding itself in all of this tranquility, and Adam knew that it was looking for someone to harm.

Adam had retained his sensitivity to the presence of evil, one of the angelic traits he had not lost in his tragic fall. As he turned to cross the street, he stopped dead in his tracks. He had found the source of his uneasiness. He glared coldly across the strip at what appeared to be a woman, but whom Adam knew to be the embodiment of malevolence, Nina. She had obviously seen him, too, because she glared back at him. The two of them went on in this manner for what seemed like minutes.

Nina was a vampire, and lived off of the blood of innocent souls. Adam watched as a man he had sold life insurance to, Vincent Van Helsing, shadowed her like an old dog. Vincent fancied himself a vampire hunter. Adam knew that it would take more than good intentions to defeat such a force of evil as Nina was. It was a good thing that Vincent had bought so much life insurance.

The most humiliating thing about this situation was that Nina knew who Adam was, and why he was here. Just as Adam intrinsically knew Nina for who she was, so too did Nina know Adam. However, she spared him her usual flood of obscenity and settled for just blowing him a kiss.

Adam shrugged this little encounter off and headed for a diner to grab a bite to eat. He heard a whole lot of racket coming from the street corner. There he found two of his close acquaintances, Seth Aaron Dupriest and Alouiscious Nerdberfell Poppadopolis III arguing over whether or not the Pope is the Antichrist. Adam hollered, "When you two get it all figured out, come and explain it to me, will ya?"

Adam walked into a diner he had never eaten at before. He waved at Coco Martinez, who winked back at him. This day was getting more and more peculiar to the shy angel.

For all of the time he had spent on Earth (nearly eighteen years), he had never known what it was to be in a loving relationship with a woman. This state of affairs was about to change, whether Adam wanted it to or not.
