Nat walked with a cramp in her leg. She took a cab from her apartment on Raintree Lane. to Sallie Moon Dr., which was about fifteen miles and then she decided to walk the last mile to the river front Harbor Resort. She planned on getting a few free drinks from Willie Batiste. Willie was a new friend of Nat's. He had been a bartender for sixty years and the Savannah Times had done a huge layout on how long he had worked in Savannah and how he knew what a person was drinking before they even asked for a drink. On Willie's break one night he came outside the front of the hotel to have a cigarette. Just as he lit his clove he discovered a pair of legs that wouldn't quit. As he made his way up the body they were on he realized that the owner of those legs was a beautiful woman in a velvet coat with an obviously expensive, short black velvet dress underneath. Her slim hips grabbed his attention and her gorgeous eyes kept it there. She was too young for Willie, but he couldn't help himself. He had an idea that she was up to no good though, because she seemed to be lingering.

"Why's a pretty girl like you out alone late at night?" he asked. "Even pretty girls have to work" she said. They continued with their small talk and a friendship was born. Nat loved to talk with Willie, the free drinks were nice also but she enjoyed the way he made her feel good about herself and the way he cared enough to try and find her other jobs so she could get off the streets. None of them paid well though and she had no experience, so the idea of her doing something else felt ridiculous. She always told Willie that there was something or someone big awaiting her, she just didn't know who or what, yet.

Nat finished her drink at the Harbor Resort and decided to walk towards some of the smaller bars down town. She knew that there would be some half way decent clientele down there and she needed them because her regulars had been away for a while. As she began to walk she noticed a car of men, and realized she knew the driver. He was a guy she met at another bar one night who turned out to be pretty interesting.
