Sedrick set off on his quest Monday morning fully intending to kill the man who murdered his parents so many years ago. "Finally, I'll have my revenge." Sedrick said out loud, as he pulled his car on to the interstate. He was often surprised that his old Zephyr could still get up to the interstate speed of seventy-five miles an hour.
Halfway to Seattle Sedrick realized that he had forgot to fill-up his gas tank and he was almost out. He pulled off the interstate in a small town. The nearest gas station was several miles down this two lane road but Sedrick did not mind, he enjoyed the scenery. Because of this he did not see the dog that ran in front of his car. A loud thump was heard a long with the violent shake of the car as the dog slid beneath. Sedrick slammed on his breaks as he looked into his rear-view mirror to see what he hit. He was very relieved when he realized that it was a dog still spinning on the side of the road instead of a person.
After filling up Sedrick headed back to the interstate when he saw a man on the side of the road hitchhiking. Sedrick never picked up anybody on the side of the road, but it was beginning to rain so he pulled over and offered the man a ride.
"My name is Sedrick. What's yours?"
"Don." The man said as he got in.
"So what are you doing out in the Washington woods by yourself?" Sedrick asked trying to make small talk.
Don told him about his quest and said, "I am searching, just searching."
"Perhaps God is the spirit you're looking for?"
"I'm sure of it," Don said. "But my God exists, as a spirit, in everything in nature. My God is the God that the Indians know. I've met him once, and now I need to find him again."
They rode the rest of the way in silence except for a few mumbled words spoken by Don. All that Sedrick could make out was the phrase "Rain the Witch." Sedrick drove the man to the Y on the outskirts of Seattle.
"Well, I wish you luck," Sedrick said as the man got out. Don then turned and handed Sedrick some money. "Don't worry about it. I was coming this way anyhow," Sedrick said smiling.
Sedrick then hopped back on the interstate and headed for the other side of Seattle where he
would start his own search.
