 | Don Breedlove sat alone, gazing at the waterfall. The thunderous sound of the rushing water was hardly even noticeable, to him. He was focusing his attention on water gazing, as the spirit guide had instructed. At one point, he thought he saw a
woman's face in the water
but the image was fleeting. The problem was that he was distracted. He knew that, if he intended to contact the spirit guide again, he would have to erase everything from his mind and concentrate entirely on the water moving before him. Still, his mind kept stealing back to his short stay in California, when his friend, Gary, had turned him on to some ass-kicking mescaline. Gary had warned Breedlove not to overdo it but Don had taken two hits, despite Gary's warning. The result was the most hellatious trip Breedlove had ever experienced. A trip that had given his life new meaning. During the drug induced trip, Don had come face to face with an Indian spirit who had informed Breedlove that he was the chosen white man. The spirit failed to inform Breedlove exactly what he was chosen for. This had necessitated that Breedlove contact the spirit guide again, for further instructions. Being unemployed, Breedlove decided to make the quest his number one priority in life.
Don decided to put the water gazing on hold for the time beingand seek his destiny at the public library in Kingsport, Tn., where he was now living with his parents.He went to the library and found a book entitled American Indian Tribes. He randomly open the book to a page and found the listing for the Suquamish Tribe,Port Madison Indian Reservation, Wa. Although he had bindly opened the book to that page, he knew that his selection had not been random becausethe spirit guide had surely caused him to open the book, where he did.So, it was settled then. He would seek to find the Indian guide by findingthe Suquamish tribe. He had some money saved from dealing dope so he decided to start hitchhiking to Washington state.

It Took Don three days to hitchhike to Washington state. He got lucky by getting a ride with a truck driver, to California, and then he caught a ride with another trucker that dropped him off in Seattle, Washington. Breedlove had a couple of thousand dollars with him when he arrived in Seattle. The first thing he did was, find the local YMCA, and rent a room for the month. then he decidedto check out the he would crash for the night and hitchhike to the Suquamish reservation
