Don

Don felt good about having beaten the system. He thought he might try to find Dan's house and score some of that acid he was talking about. First, though, he needed to find a place to get something to eat. He walked around Seattle till he found a little cafe.
When he went in and sat down to order, a waitress with the nametag, True, came over and took his order. She seemed kinda preoccupied so Don didn't try to talk to her.

After he left the diner, he began hitchhiking to the adress that Dan had given him. He was picked up by a wild looking young girl named Dip. Don started talking to her and was surprised to find that she was the younger sister of the waitress named True. "Man, your parents named you two cool names. I wish I had a cool name. Something like Ugh, maybe."
"Yeah, that would suit you alright," Dip agreed. They both laughed.
Dip dropped Don off at the exit ramp near Dan's house. When Don got on the ramp, he saw a familiar-looking woman standing there. It was the witch,Raine.

"Where are you going?" she asked Don.
"I'm going to see a guy I met last night"
"He has no answer for you. The answer you seek lies in the clear water. Turn back now, and come to my house tonight. I will explain everything to you then.
Don realized that he didn't really want the acid anyway. Drugs had become old to him anyway. He took Raine's advice and hitchhiked back to Seattle.
That night Don hitchhiked to Raine's house in the woods. She met him in the yard.
"Come with me" she took his hand and led to the river that ran near her house. They sat beside the river.
"Are you going to show me how to water gaze?"
She didn't answer, but instead, picked up a medium sized stone. "Do you see the clear water?"
Don looked in the clear lake. "yes" he said.
"Watch what happens when I throw the stone in." She tossed the stone in the water and it kicked up a small cloud of dust as it settled to the bottom. "The stone is foreign to the river," she explained. "If I add a foreign substance to the clear water, it clouds the water. The water is like your mind. When you continually add foreign substances to your body, you cloud your mind. You must clear your mind if you ever hope to find your true path in life."
"Wow, I see what you mean. By seeking the spirit through drugs, I've been going about it all wrong."
"Exactly! Also, think of the stone as an obstacle. There will be obstacles in your path, but, if your path is true, like the river, they will be easily overcome. Just as the river easily flows over the stone and continues on."
At that instant, Don's outlook was completely changed.

Don realized then, that he had been wasting his life on drugs and booze. He knew then that he did not need to seek his spirit guide any longer. He had found his guide in the witch, Raine. He also believed he had found his true path in life. "I understand that you teach at the university?" he asked Raine.
"Yes, I do."
"Do they offer financial aid there?"
"Sure. In fact, I believe that, if you wanted to attend, you could get enough aid through government grants and loans, so that you could live on campus and attend classes full time."

Don grinned. "I know what I want to do then. I am going to go to college and become a drug and alchohol counselor."

"You see how your path becomes clear, once you've cleared your mind? I will do everything I can to help you."
