From outside of the Blues there came the sound of cars colliding... a
sickening crunch of steel grinding steel.
"Mother of shit... what the hell?!?" hollered Jeb.
Jeb flew out the door headed for the wreck like his ass was on fire and
the wrecked car would put it out. Ernie watched him aim for one of the
drivers (a female) like a beagle after bird. Now that was one pissed off
lady... there was this aura of anger all over her... Jeb, to Ernie's shock
walked right up to her and began talkin' about something. What was that...
Yep, he was sure he saw it... that was green... she gave him some money.
Jeb then turned his attention towards the man... also obviously pretty
steamed. This jerk just flipped Jeb off. Jeb came running back towards
the bar with a in his hand.
"Big E... this rounds on me!" shouted Jeb joyfully, tossing the bills at
the grinning Lou.
"If'n you ain't the connivingest bastard I've ever met!" laughed Lou.
"Have one on the house." Lou handed both Jeb and Ernie a shot of his
cheapest liquor... brown liquor... as always.
The two of them drank and drank and drank some more. Sometime after Jeb's
comment about him being old and still able to drink a young man under
the table Ernie's stomache gave up on him and he let loose all that hard
earned booze... right on the bartender's shirt. Jeb was so drunk and so
tickled at that that pissed all over himself.
"Wells, I guesses it time to go." Jeb said falling over on the counter as
he tried to stand up.
Ernie headed off to work (which he just barely noticed he was fixin' to be
late for). Jeb headed... Gawd knows where... where he always goes.
Ernie walked into the building, signed in, and waved at the guy he was
replacing, who shook his head at Ernie's acid breath. Ernie muttered
something under his breath and then said, rather loudly, in as sober a
voice as is possible when your blind, stinking, drunk, "Have a good
Evening!"
Ernie spent an uneventful 5 hours on the job and then, after his replacement
showed up fifteen minutes late, left for his single, rented room, home.
