Two weeks later, Savvy walked into the county courthouse by herself. She had made a lot of changes in the last two weeks. First, Savvy had quit her job at the zoo. In fact, her last official act had been to help a couple of security guards throw an old drunk wearing a military trench coat and his buddy out of the zoo.
Savvy had all the money she would ever need, and she wanted to put it to good use. The wolves had inspired her, and she had decided to spend the rest of her life fighting for and protecting them. Savvy had met with some representatives from The Environmental Protection Agency the day after her experience, and they had arranged for her to do both PR and hands-on work for several wolf research project across the country.
After she quit her job, Savvy had gone home and burned all her professional suits and high heels. She had decided to wear only comfortable clothes from now on. She also threw out all her makeup that was tested on animals and every aerosol can she could find. After she had turned her log house into an environmentally friendly building, Savvy had fired her money-grubbing lawyer. In the spirit of generosity and new found self, Savvy had even decided to forgive Jarrod Williamson for hitting her car and drop her lawsuit.
As she strode into the courtroom wearing jeans and a flannel shirt, she saw Jarrod Williamson's mouth drop open in shock. The judge went through all the legal formalities and then turned to Savvy.
"Do you wish to pursue this matter, Ms. Flint?" the judged asked gravely.
"No, your honor. I wish to withdraw my complaint against Mr. Williamson. I will gladly pay for the damage to both my car and his car," Savvy smiled sweetly at the judge.
"Mr. Williamson, what do you have to say about this?" the judge turned to Jarrod Williamson.
"I also wish to drop my lawsuit your honor, but I insist that I be allowed to pay for the damages to both cars," Jarrod Williamson said.
"Very well, work it out amongst yourselves," the judge said as he banged down his gavel and cried, "Next case!"
Savvy went over to Jarrod. "What made you change your mind?" she asked him.
"I had a vision," he replied. "There I was, sitting at home watching a football game, when POW! I have this great vision of myself as a restauranteur. What made you change your mind, and say, what's with the Mother Earth outfit?" he asked Savvy.
"Isn't it funny?" she said. "I had a vision too. Except I saw myself as a crusading environmentalist protecting Mother Earth and her creatures," Savvy said enthusiastically. "And this outfit is so much more comfortable than walking around in high heels all day," she added.
"Cool," Jarrod said. "How about this--we each pay for the damages to our own cars and then I'll give you some free meals when my restaurant opens up at Christmas. Okay?"
"Sure, that sounds great. Here's my address and phone number. Send me a menu when you get it worked out, okay?" Savvy said.
"Okay," Jarrod said and walked away.
Savvy smiled and walked out of the courthouse into the fresh clean air.
