Founded in the Fall of 1995, the Vanguard Theatre Society (VTS) seeks to enrich the theatrical and cultural awareness of the ETSU community by offering to its members--as both observers and participants--an opportunity to experience the vitality of theatre. VTS is open to all ETSU students, faculty, and staff, and our current members include students in English, Theatre, History, Biology, French, and Pre-Med. VTS conducts meetings on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. Activities have included:a trip to the Barter Theatre to see Amadeus;a playwright's circle;a play-writing contest (winning play to be produced on campus);performances of Torch Song Trilogy and Zoo Story;and various Homecoming activities.Future plans include seminars on acting (for both novices and experienced actors) and directing, guest speakers, and travels to Louisville's Actors' Theatre, to the Stratford Festival in Canada, and possibly to London. For more information about VTS, or for a copy of the latest issue of the VTS newsletter, contact: Joseph Rice, VTS Advisor
