JOHNSON CITY—Those passing by a display in the lobby of East Tennessee State University's Sherrod Library often take a second look when they see a poster of a young cheerleader with the face of an elderly woman, says reference librarian Kathy Campbell.
The eye-catching poster promotes National Healthy Skin Awareness Month and is a portion of a two-part health awareness display featured at the Sherrod Library this month.
Numerous health organizations have also designated November as their awareness month. To help disseminate the information, Campbell and Carol Norris, ETSU associate professor of mediated searching, designed the display to provide the community with useful information about diabetic eye disease, lung cancer, Alzheimer's disease, bone marrow donation, healthy skin, and family caregivers.
The exhibit provides brochures, literature, contact information and Web site addresses for the featured health organizations.
“We invite the community to come by, take a look, become more informed and pass the information along to save lives and make life more enjoyable,” Campbell said.
Sherrod Library hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 am- 11p.m.; Fridays, 8 a.m. –6 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sundays, 2-11 p.m.
