ETSU fraternities and sororities offering hazing education workshop

JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University fraternities and sororities are joining forces to offer a hazing education workshop to athletic teams, campus Greek and non-Greek organizations and the community on Tuesday, Feb. 5, from 7-8:30 p.m., in the D.P. Culp University Center's Martha Street Culp Auditorium.

The workshop will define hazing, provide an overview of state law and the hazing policies of ETSU and its governing board, the Tennessee Board of Regents, and discuss various hazing scenarios, which organizations could face, and how hazing case studies apply to the organizations.

A panel of experts, including Dr. Steve Bader, ETSU senior vice president of student affairs and dean of students; Dr. Gary Petiprin, director of ETSU's Counseling Center; Kristin Chamberlin-Long, area coordinator of ETSU's office of housing and residence life and workshop facilitator; Rhonda Bishop, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority international officer; Michelle Treece, Science Hill High School teacher; and Ken Bailey, local attorney and Sigma Chi Fraternity adviser, will discuss hazing issues and consequences from their professional viewpoint. The workshop concludes with a question and answer session.

Sponsors of the workshop include Alpha Delta Pi, Kappa Delta and Zeta Phi Beta sororities and Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Chi fraternities.
