East
Tennessee State University (ETSU), in its continuing effort
to maintain a safe academic and work environment for students,
faculty and staff, is presenting the following information
concerning campus safety and security. This
information is presented to the university community with
the knowledge that individual awareness and adherence to
university security policies and procedures is the best
method to maintain a safe campus environment.
The
federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act and the Tennessee
College and University Campus Sex Crimes Prevention, as
of 2002, require that when a sex offender becomes employed,
enrolls as a student, or volunteers at an institution of
higher education in the state of Tennessee, he or she must
register with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
The TBI is responsible for promptly notifying the Department
of Public Safety at ETSU of any offender who is currently
registered and is also an employee or student at ETSU.
At
present, ETSU has not been notified by the TBI of any
known current employee or student who is listed on the
TBI sex offender registry. A listing of persons who
have reported to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
pursuant to the Sex Crimes Prevention Act is available
in the ETSU Department of Public Safety office.
The
information presented below is designed to meet the guidelines
of the College and University Security Information Act
of 1989 and the Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security
Act of 1990. Information
concerning university security policies and procedures,
crime rates and crime statistics can be obtained upon request
from the Department of Public Safety, Box 70646, East Tennessee
State University, Johnson City, TN 37614-0646.
