Alternative loans are available to students who need
additional loan funds beyond federal loan maximums up to the cost of
education or to some students who do not qualify for federal student
loans. ETSU cooperates with a number of student loan lenders in
processing loan applications. However, we do participate in
electronic funds transfer with a few of our
preferred lenders. For additional information and a comparison of several loan programs, check with
your current student loan lender for their Alternative Loan Program,
click on ETSU's Preferred Lenders
Information, or
visit the EStudent Loan LoanFinder.
You may request your student/parent loan through any
lender.
Please be aware that
the benefits offered by lenders to student loan borrowers vary and
are subject to change. Before selecting a lender, please
contact various lenders of interest and review their borrower
benefits to determine which lender best meets your educational
borrowing needs.
ETSU does not receive
any monetary benefit from any lender.
HOW DOES
ETSU SELECT ITS PREFERRED LENDERS?
Our preferred lenders are
selected on the basis of:
·
Ability to
transmit/process loan information electronically
·
Advantages
offered to students
·
General
student feedback, student preferences over time
·
Track
record of performance with ETSU
·
General
input from the business community; professional contacts in the
student financial aid community, and ongoing review of appropriate
professional business and trade journals
·
Determinations are made on an annual basis by the Director in close
consultation with the Assistant Directors
Alternative loans are designed especially for credit-worthy
students and parents. If you meet specific credit requirements, have
proof of your U.S. citizenship and evidence of your repayment
capacity, you may borrow from $2,000 to $15,000 per academic year,
based on the cost of attendance at your school, minus any other
financial aid awarded. This is a service provided by the
various lenders. ETSU is not required to process alternative loans.
It is ETSU's policy to require students to complete the
Free Application For Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) to better determine the student's
eligibility for loans and other forms of financial aid before
processing an alternative loan.
