If selected for verification, the student must complete a Verification Worksheet, submit copies of the parent(s)/student/spouse IRS 1040 Federal Tax Return along with copies of all W-2's from employers, Worksheets A, B, & C, and any other untaxed income documentation to ETSU. The university may also request other information upon review.

Students are selected at random for verification by the Federal Student Aid Programs' Central Processing System. Institutions must verify the information provided by the student/spouse and/or parents before an award can be offered to the student. ETSU students who are selected for verification will receive a written request from the Office of Financial Aid at ETSU for the required verification documents. It is very important to respond promptly to all requests for verification information from the Office of Financial Aid. Delays in response or submission of incomplete verification documentation will delay the offer of a student financial aid award package.

Students who are eligible for Tennessee Educational Lottery Scholarships may be flagged for verification even if they qualify for no other aid. Verification must be completed before an award can be offered to the student by ETSU.

Contact Us!  In an effort to adhere to federal privacy laws, the ETSU Office of Financial Aid restricts the release of certain private student information.   Students must contact us personally to check the status of their financial aid application and awards.  Often, we will be unable to release information to third parties (i.e., parents, spouses, etc.) without a signed release form on file from the student. To obtain a Release of Information form, the student must visit our office in person and present a photo ID.
