Information for Students and Parents
How
do students benefit from taking general education courses?
ETSU
wants every student to experience certain
benefits of an undergraduate education, regardless of his or her
field of study or career goals. ETSU's general education
requirements are designed to help students:
-
Think
for themselves,
support their opinions, and be insightful readers and listeners;
-
Keep
learning and growing
throughout their lives;
-
Gain
greater understanding
of their lives and the world in which they live;
-
Resolve
conflicts
nonviolently and solve problems creatively, often by
working with others;
-
Appreciate the value of living in a diverse
society;
-
Be
active, involved citizens in their communities and the larger world;
-
Find
greater joy, meaning and fulfillment in their lives and help others do the same.
ETSU's
general education program seeks to help students acquire the fundamental
knowledge, skills and abilities they need to achieve these goals.
