Word 2003 Template Instructions

  • Access the forms toolbar
  • Lock the form when changing fields, unlock the form when altering template
  • Make sure that all the grey form-fields have been filled in with unique text
  • Before submitting the document, turn off form-field shading

 

Detailed Instructions for Microsoft Word 2003

  • Access the Forms toolbar
    1. You should see a toolbar like this when dealing with forms: Form Buttons
    2. If you don't see the toolbar, right click on a blank spot in your toolbar. You should see a menu like this: Forms Toolbar
    3. Select the "forms" option
    4. You should now have access to the forms buttons.

 

  • Lock the form when changing fields, unlock the form when altering template
    1. When ready to fill out a template, make sure the form is locked by clicking the Protect Forms Button button.
    2. If it is locked, you will not be able to modify anything outside of form fields.
  • Make sure that all the grey form-fields have been filled in with unique text
    1. Fillable form fields have default text in them and are grayed out like this: Fillable Form Fields Example
    2. Lock the form so that you don't mess up the templates when trying to fill it in.
    3. Replace the default text for the field with the relevant information about your thesis.
  • Before submitting the document, turn off form-field shading
    1. Before submitting, turn off form fields so that the gray shading doesn't show.
    2. Click the Shade Button form field shading button to turn off the gray.
