GRADUATION INSTRUCTIONS
for
Candidates Completing Requirements for Fall 2009 Graduation

Graduation Forms: Sep. 14, 2009 is the deadline for filing intents to graduate, candidacy forms, committee forms, and programs of study with the School of Graduate Studies.
Oral Defense: Oct. 26, 2009 is the deadline to schedule oral defense of theses or dissertations with the School of Graduate Studies for Dec 2009 graduation. Nov 09, 2009 is the last date to complete oral defense of theses or dissertations for Dec 2009 graduation.
Theses and Dissertations: Nov 16, 2009 is the deadline for filing electronic review copies of master's theses and doctoral dissertations with the Graduate School. Dec 16, 2009 is the deadline for filing final electronic copies of all theses and dissertations with the Graduate School.
NOTE: Review copies are read in the order of submission. Individuals submitting review copies on the review deadline day (Nov 16, 2009) will have little time for revisions before the deadline for final copies. To assure that you have sufficient time for revisions and corrections prior to submitting final copies on Dec 16, 2009, submit your review draft prior to Nov. 16, 2009.
Microfilming Fees: Microfilming (UMI) fees for all theses and dissertations must be paid, and a receipt must be presented to the appropriate graduate liaison in the Graduate School, by Dec 14, 2009. Master's candidates pay $63.51, and doctoral candidates pay $74.46.
Transfer Credit: All non-ETSU transfer credits must be completed prior to the term of graduation. Transfer of credit may not be initiated after the graduation intent deadline.
Incomplete Grades and Grades of SP and U: All grades of “I” or “SP” in courses necessary for graduation must be removed. No student can graduate with an outstanding “I,” “SP,” or “U” on the program of study.
Address Change: Any candidate for a degree should keep their mailing address current on Gold Link.
E-Mail Address: You will be contacted primarily through your ETSU e-mail account. If you would like to use an additional address, please contact the Graduation Office.

Financial Accounts and Obligations: All financial accounts must be settled by Dec. 17, 2009. Library fines, parking fines, obligations to the Instructional Media Center, returned checks, loan exit interviews, etc. must be cleared. Neither diplomas nor transcripts can be released until all accounts are cleared.
Address Change: Any candidate for a degree whose current mailing address changes from that shown on the Intention to Graduate form must promptly notify the Graduation Office in 102-B Dossett Hall and the appropriate graduate program specialist in the Graduate School, 309 Dossett Hall. If your mailing address changes after leaving the campus at the close of the term, notify the Graduation Office at the following address:

Invitations may be ordered and the CAPS and GOWNS may be picked up at the Graduation Celebration in the BALLROOM of the Culp Center on Oct. 8, 2009 from 10:30 am - 5:00 pm. You do not have to be fitted for the Cap and Gown. YOU MAY ALSO PICK UP THE CAP AND GOWN IN ROOM 101, DOSSETT HALL two weeks prior to the ceremony.
GRADUATION REHEARSAL: The rehearsal is Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Center (Minidome). Final instructions will be given at that time. The ceremonies will be divided among the colleges listed below:
10:00 a.m:
College(s) of Business and Technology, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, and the School of Continuing Studies.
2:00 p.m:
College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education
GRADUATION CEREMONY: The graduation ceremony will be Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Center (Minidome). The colleges to attend each ceremony are listed below:
10:00 a.m.:
College(s) of Business and Technology, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences, and the School of Continuing Studies.
2:00 p.m.: College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education
Diplomas:No diplomas will be issued at the Graduation Ceremony. You will be given the diploma cover as you cross the stage and you need to keep this for your diploma. Diplomas will be available Jan. 11, 2010 - Feb. 5, 2010 in the Graduation Office, Room 102-B Dossett Hall. Please plan to come pick up your diploma. This will ensure the safety of your diploma and, if there are corrections to be made, they can be made immediately. Beginning Feb. 8, 2010 those diplomas not picked up will be mailed.
Career Development: You are encouraged to take advantage of the Placement Service offered by the Office of Career Development. This is a lifetime, free service of interviews, job notifications, and mailing of credentials in support of your application. This office is located in Room 323 Culp Center.
Teacher Certification: Graduates who plan to teach should order a teaching certificate through the College of Education.
Students receiving graduate certificates but not receiving graduate degrees (e.g. M.Sc., Ph.D, etc.) do NOT participate in the graduation ceremony.
