Non-degree Applicant Information

A complete non-degree application will include the following:
(NOTE: International Students CANNOT make a Non-degree Application)

• Completed, verified electronic application form.
• Non refundable application fee of $25.00 made payable to East Tennessee State
  University. You may pay by check, money order or credit card (Master Card or
  VISA only)--do not include cash.
• One official transcript verifying that you have earned a bachelor's degree from an
  accredited institution.
  • NOTE: If you earned a degree from ETSU, your transcript will be verified in-house and there is no need to request a paper transcript.
  • HOWEVER, if you will be applying to a graduate degree or certificate program at a later date, it would be advantageous to supply all the required official transcripts at this time (see Instructions for Domestic Applicants at this site). If you never intend to apply to a graduate degree program, a transcript showing the bachelor's degree will suffice.

• Residency Inquiry Form, if you are claiming Tennessee residency. (Available for download at this site.) Print the form and complete by typing or hand-printing the information legibly. Be certain to sign the document, mail to the above address,
  or fax (423) 439-5624.

  • Reminder: work earned as a non-degree student is classified as transfer credit to a degree program. Students may petition to transfer a maximum of nine (9) hours of graduate credit from ETSU or other regionally accredited institutions. Only grades of "B" or higher are accepted for transfer ("B-" grades do not transfer). ETSU cannot assure a non-degree student that all or any work completed in this status will apply toward a degree.
  • Departments may exclude non-degree students from designated courses, and it is a department's prerogative to require non-degree students to have its approval prior to registering for any class.
