Nine-month Graduate Assistantship in the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services

Job Description:

The individual will assist the Director of the Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Program with the following duties:

  • Scheduling performances by ETSU Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Program students for various programs on and off campus, including coordinating schedules and performance information prior to and after band performances.
  • Assisting the director with phone messages, email, and general correspondence and helping organize and maintain director’s office and files.
  • Handling office duties such as answering the telephone, assisting with requests for information, referring calls and/or messages to the appropriate person, and having a friendly interaction with people.
  • Helping maintain and keep updated the Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Program website, including the schedule of events.
  • Representing the Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music Program to prospective students, tour groups, and the public.
  • Maintaining inventory of all program CDs, DVS, and other salable items within the program and sound equipment.

Skills Required:

This individual must have good oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills and work smoothly as part of a team. He or she must have proficiency with PC platforms, and skills in word processing and spreadsheets (Word and Excel). This person must be able to work some evenings and weekends when required.

Preferences will be given to those individuals with a background in bluegrass or other music genres.

Job Description: Graduate Assistants will have daily contact with faculty and staff. 

Primary duties:

  • Assist with facilitating technology workshops
  • Conduct training sessions in the Multimedia Classrooms
  • Assist faculty and staff with specific technology needs
  • Assist with the development of training aids
  • Assist faculty with the digitization of materials including VHS to DVD, AVI, etc.

Graduate Assistants work twenty hours per week in the University Tutoring Services office. The student will assist the University Tutoring Coordinator with performing clerical, administrative, and public relations tasks related to tutoring services. Graduate Assistant for Greek Life

FALL 2008/SPRING 2009 ASSISTANTSHIP AVAILABLE

The Graduate Assistant for Greek Life will work with fraternities and sororities and their respective governing groups under the direct supervision of the Coordinator for Greek Life and Community Service Programs.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Advise and support programs and initiatives sponsored by the Greek Life Office, the Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Panhellenic Council
  • Serve as advisor to select officers of the fraternity/sorority governing councils
  • Serve as primary contact for planning and execution of risk management education and monitor organization compliance
  • Assist in support, advising, and development of sixteen (15) (inter)national fraternities and sororities on campus, their officers and their members
  • Assist in support and advising of membership recruitment processes for fraternities and sororities
  • Participate as an active member of the Student Organization Resource Center staff
  • All other duties as assigned by the Coordinator for Greek Life and Community Service Programs that further fraternity, sorority, and student engagement initiatives within the campus community

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in mentoring and advising students, strong ability to work well as part of a team and autonomously, outstanding interpersonal communication skills and ability to build relationships, excellent decision-making and time management skills.
