Rhinoceros! (Teleoceras)

Because the skeleton extended past our original pit, we had to open five new squares. Here Helena Katz (upper left), Patrick Hawkins (middle left), Aleta Chandler (middle right) and Jeff Supplee (lower left) work to open the new section. Note that the original pit is in the upper right of this picture.

Because we knew that this rhino would take a significant amount of time to remove, and because we intend to work in this pit long after we finished the rhino, we decided to build a miniature version of our greenhouses.

Here is the building half-finished with people working under it. Although the shelter does provide protection from the rain, its primary purpose is to shade the workers. The building was built very robustly so the only maintenance that it should require is to replace the tarp once or twice a year.

Ahhh...working in the shade! The only draw back to the building, is that on a cloudy day it can (almost) get too dark to work. However, most days provide more than enough ambient light.

Unless stated otherwise, all pictures were taken by volunteer photographer George Linthicum.
