Web-Based Instruction
Blackboard I have received extensive training from the Office of Distance Education at East Tennessee State University in building courseware using Blackboard. Online courses (courses that do not meet in a traditional classroom setting) I have developed include:

WebCT Under separate contract to the Tennessee Board of Regents for its Online Degree Program, I received advanced training in course building and administration using WebCT software. Online courses I have developed in WebCT format include:

DIWE (Daedalus Interactive Writing Environment) I have designed and taught Freshman Composition I and II using DIWE software provided by the English Department at East Tennessee State University. Since Spring 2000, I have supervised three to six sections of DIWE-enhanced composition courses (taught by graduate teaching assistants and adjunct faculty) in the English Department Computer Laboratory.
Norton Textra Connect for Word for Windows From 1994-1999, I received training in courseware development using Norton Textra Connect--first in the DOS-based version and, later, in the Windows 95 environment.
Using Norton Textra Connect, I have designed and taught Freshman Composition I, Freshman Composition II, and American Literature II.
HTML Internet-Based Instruction Using HTML and STML training I received at the University of Alabama, augmented by my own research, I have developed and taught the following Internet-based courses:
-- ENGL4420: Writing With Computers. A technology intensive course, this class includes elements of Internet web page design, technical writing, expository writing, and desktop publishing.
-- ENGL4100: Writing in the Professions.
This course is, primarily, an advanced technical writing and Internet design class -- I have prepared this course in web-enhanced (HTML), Blackboard enhanced, and online formats.
-- ENGL3134: Computers, Writing, and Literature.
In this class, students learn to locate, evaluate, manipulate, and produce Internet-based literature/texts -- I have prepared this course in web-enhanced (HTML), Blackboard enhanced, and online formats.
-- ENGL3120: Pre-professional Writing.
An introduction to technical and Internet writing, this course covers the basics of interdisciplinary writing, writing across the curriculum, and production of texts for a variety of specific disciplines. Students produce a portfolio of technical writing projects.

Supervision Director of Computer-Assisted Writing: ETSU English Department

Through 1987, I served as Managing Editor of this weekly paper. My responsibilities included all aspects of advertising, graphic arts, and publication (I've done everything except attach the finished plates to the press). I also served as member of the redesign team for Village Publications (publishers of LaVilla, working with the National Newspaper Association and the Arkansas Press Association to revise the format for three weekly newspapers in Arkansas.

Through 1988, I operated this small graphics arts company. My activities included production of business cards, brochures, and newspaper/magazine advertisements for area businesses.
1987 The Villager Newspaper
Through 1988, I served as Managing Editor of this weekly paper, and its subsidiary publications: Villager News, Spa and Lake News, and The National Park Magazine. My responsibilities included all aspects of advertising, graphic arts, and publication (I've done everything except attach the finished plates to the press).

Freelance Writer; Part-Time Graphic Artist
My freelance writing for the weekly Arkansas Catholic included travel to diverse locations across the state, on paid assignment; I also performed a good deal of "in-house writing" (when the paper was short-handed--a frequent occurrence--I worked to write and revise copy with the full-time personnel).
As a graphic artist for this newspaper, I designed advertisements, brochures, and special events pages; I also assisted with layout of copy and advertising.
I worked in both positions until 1993.
1990 August House Books
Freelance Writer; Graphic Artist
In collaboration with faculty in the Department of English at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, I worked with August House in development of a book, The Steps We Took; a handbook, Substance Abuse Treatment at Serenity Park; and a four-color "coffee-table book" for Serenity Park.
1992 University of Arkansas at Little Rock
Through 1994, I was employed full-time as Computer Lab Coordinator for the UALR Department of Educational Leadership. My job responsibilities included (1) budgeting and purchasing for two computer labs; (2) building and maintaining two LANs; (3) supervising paid and student lab assistants; (4) administering computer exams; (5) maintaining an examination and evaluation program on the LAN server; (6) acting as collaborator and advisor to faculty and staff in the areas of computer operations, writing, and instructional design; (7)designing and teaching numerous seminars in desktop publishing, Internet research, BASIC programming, computer operations, and instructional design; and (8) development and implementation of a lab manual for the department.

From 1995 through 1998, for personal enrichment, I engaged in self-study of Hypertext Markup Language and web page design, teaching myself via the internet and "hard copy" manuals the basic and advanced levels of HTML.
· Tennessee Williams Web Pages
Beginning in 1997, as an outgrowth of my study of HTML and as a development project in my doctoral field, I designed and implemented a web site devoted t
o academic study of playwright Tennessee Williams. I now receive more than 100 emails each year from scholars who have examined the site.
· Computer-Assisted Writing Web Pages
Beginning in 1998, as a development project in my secondary doctoral field, technical and collaborative writing, I designed and implemented web pages (linked to my Williams site) that include scholarly research, essays, and links relative to technical, expository, and collaborative writing.
· Genealogy Web Pages
As a personal interest and development project, I began to transfer photographs and other materials from my 1994 family genealogy to the Internet. This is an ongoing project, and will eventually include a material family tree that extends back to the 1600s.

Beginning in 1999, I joined the faculty of ETSU as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English and Director of Computer Assisted Writing. My responsibilities include (1) administration of the department's computer lab and training for lab assistants; (2) designing technology-intensive courses for the department, and revising existing courses to make them writing- and/or technology-intensive; (3) acting as liaison to the university's technology offices and organizations; (4) development of professional development seminars in technology for faculty, staff, and students; and (5) general faculty teaching obligations, including teaching technical writing, desktop publishing, academic/professional writing, and literature courses.

In 1999-2000, I designed a new recruitment brochure for the ETSU English Department.
· Web Design and Administration
In 1999, I designed and implemented a web site for the ETSU English Department Computer Lab.
In 2000, I became webmaster for the ETSU English Department's web page. Beginning in Spring 2000 semester, I designed and implemented a web site for my Computers and Writing Class--this is the first in a series of almost-paperless classes I will design and teach in the ETSU English Department.
In 2001, I began work with the Assistant Chair for Undergraduate Studies, Department of English, to offer our Graduate Teaching Practicum as a web-enhanced course

In 2000 I attended a grant writing workshop in Washington, D.C., and produced my first grant proposal for the English Department Computer Laboratory.
