GoldLab Using GoldLab Off Campus with Citrix Receiver

Here are some instructions for installing and configuring the Citrix Receiver software on your computer for off-campus. This should allow you to use your computer to access the applications that are available on Goldlab. The instructions will be provided first in an ordered list, for those who may want to scan through them. Afterwards, images will be provided to illustrate the process.

NOTE: If you've been accessing Goldlab using your web browser, or maybe attempting to access it in that manner, we recommend that you remove any current installations of the Citrix Receiver software and then follow the steps below to download and install the software again. Hopefully this will make the process easier. You should not have to use your web browser to access the Goldlab apps again.

  2. Run the installer.
  3. Click on the Start button in the application
  4. Accept the license agreement and click Next
  5. You can choose to send or not to send anonymous data to Citrix

Opening files on local computer or network drive

Opening FilesNOTE: If you've been accessing Goldlab via your web browser and you find that you're not able to open up files that are stored on your computer, we recommend that you uninstall the Citrix Receiver program from your computer. After that, follow the instructions above for downloading and installing the software again. This should make file access easier. Please don't go back to the Goldlab site and download it from there. You may end up back in the same situation.

When you launch the various applications available through Goldlab, you should be able to access files that are stored on your computer. This is usually done either through the 'Open' command in the File menu, or by a different icon in the toolbar. When the Open box comes up, you'll see either a list of files and folders that you can navigate through, or you may only see a list of files that are in that folder.

In many cases, there's a "Look in" box at the top of the window. When you click on that, you'd get a screen similar to the image on the right. This should show you the local drives on your computer, any network drives that are accessible to the computer, and drives that are usually accessible from an ETSU computer, such as the Q: and S: drives for employees and the Z: for students. It also shows the local drives for the server. To hopefully avoid confusion, if you want to access a file that's stored somewhere on your hard drive, you'll want to choose the option that says (C: on ...) where the ... is the name of the computer. For example, in the image on the right, if I wanted to choose the hard drive on my computer, I would choose "Local Disk (C: on HELP2). If you need to access a network drive, simply choose it from the list.

Stopping and resuming

Receiver IconWhen you are done using the Goldlab apps, simply close the Citrix Receiver program. When you need to access it again, simply click on the Citrix Receiver entry in your programs list. You may also have a convenient icon in the lower-right part of the screen that you can just double-click on. The icon should look similar to what's showing on the right.
