Award: $30,000 stipend to be used
towards master's-level teacher preparation at one of four
affiliated schools (Stanford University, University of
Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, or University of
Washington). Upon
completion of the three-year service commitment, recipients will
also become life-long Woodrow Wilson Fellows, a network of over
21,000 distinguished leaders in the arts, business, education,
industry, medicine, politics, and the sciences.
Eligibility: Applicants must be US
citizens or permanent residents, have completed a bachelor's
degree by the time the fellowship is to begin, and interested in
teaching math, science, or Spanish at the middle- or high-school
level.
When to Apply: Applications should
be sent directly to the specific school of interest. Deadlines
vary by school, but completed applications (for general
admission and fellowship) are usually due in early January.
Recently created by the Woodrow Wilson
National Fellowship Foundation in order to improve the national
teacher workforce, the Annenberg fellowship is envisioned as a
premiere opportunity for those wishing to enter the profession
of teaching. Recipients will undertake a year-long Masters
program at one of four partner-schools - Stanford University,
University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, or
University of Washington- after which they will be given a
three-year employment contract at a low-performing, high need
(rural or urban) secondary school and extensive on-site
mentoring. In
addition, if a recipient chooses to teach two additional years
at a high-need school, s/he will likely qualify for Federal
student loan debt forgiveness of up to $17,500.
