Award:
Full tuition and fees at the institution of your choice
plus approximately $31,000 per year for living expenses and up
to $1000 to go towards health-care premiums.
The length of the scholarship is three years, contingent
on the recipient's ongoing satisfactory process in their
program.
Eligibility: Applicants must be US
citizens or nationals, in the final year of their undergraduate
program or have completed no more than the equivalent of one
year of full-time graduate study, and pursuing a degree in one
of the approved disciplines.
When to Apply: Applications are
usually due online in early January.
Sponsored by the US Department of Defense,
the National Defense Science and Engineering fellowship assists
approximately 300 students a year obtain graduate degrees in
science and engineering disciplines of military importance.
These include Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering,
Biosciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering,
Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences, Computer and
Computational Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Geosciences,
Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical
Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering,
Oceanography, and Physics. While this fellowship is intended to
strengthen those fields that the Department of Defense deems
most important for national security, recipients are under no
obligation to future military or government service.
