Award: Tuition, fees, and room and
board at the University of your choice, plus reimbursement for
books and travel, for two years.
Eligibility: Applicants must be US
citizens, have a GPA of 3.2 or higher, and be planning on
entering a master's program in the year following application in
public policy, international affairs, or public administration,
or in an academic field such as business, economics, political
science, sociology, or foreign languages.
When to Apply:
Applications are usually due in early February.
The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs
Fellowship is designed to attract and prepare outstanding
individuals for careers in the United States Department of State
Foreign Service. Recipients will receive support to cover all
expenses towards their attainment of a two-year master's degree
in a subject area compatible with the mission and needs of the
State Department. In addition to their normal coursework,
fellows will take part in a domestic internship in the summer
after their first year, and an overseas internship the summer
after their second year. Upon completion of their degree,
recipients are required to serve at least three years as a
Foreign Service officer.
