Regretfully, we haven't had a huge response to our idea for an
Honors Reunion at ETSU. In fact, less than 10 alumni have
responded positively. Unfortunately, with less than 10, we won't
be able to conduct the Reunion. We will be getting in touch with
those who did reply to arrange for return of funds provided with
their registrations. However, we will be pleased to host any
alumni who still wish to visit. For those of you interested in
the "Alumni Return to the Classroom"---we hope (a lot) that
those interested will still participate. Linda Wyatt will be
contacting those who have expressed interest and will work with
you on the details. We'll be here and happily visit with you
during your stay. If any others are interested (yes?), please
feel free to contact Linda directly by phone (423-439-6075) or
email (wyattlg@etsu.edu).
We also are committed to the Dedication Ceremony for the bench,
plaque and trees (a nice "spot") for Jay Boland. His family
(wife, children, parents and siblings) will be here for the
dedication. We will have a short ceremony on the spot and a
reception following. We encourage you to attend, if possible, or
send us a note to pass along to his family---they really
appreciate hearing about Jay and his work with students here at
ETSU. If you would like to attend this dedication on Friday,
October 19th, please get in touch (or stay in touch) with me and
I'll keep you informed of our plans. We'll probably look at
something around 4:30 pm that Friday with a reception from 5-6
pm.
We really do need our Alumni of Honors at ETSU. But, I've come
to realize that we don't have much of an organization or
involvement for our alumni---obviously, something we need to
fix. I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas that any of you
may have. Please send your ideas to me via email
(pylesr@etsu.edu) or call
me (423-439-6076).
In the meantime, I am looking for alumni who would be willing to
serve on the Honors College Advisory Board, as well as those of
you who might be interested in visiting for some special
"Sessions on Professions" with our current honors (and others)
scholars. "SoP" is currently just an idea . . . bringing in
local practicing professionals and alums in targeted areas
(e.g., law; arts; medicine, etc.) to have an evening session
with students to discuss the realities of the job. Of course, if
any of you have ideas, feedback, suggestions, etc.; on how to
make our Honors Alumni group a bit more active and involved . .
. well, I'd appreciate all the help I can get.
So, let me hear from you. I'm truly sorry this event can't
happen, partly just personal since it would be fun to see you
again. Stay in touch and please send me your thoughts.
Best wishes,
Rebecca A.
