Celebrating and Promoting International Education and Exchange
International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries.

International Embassy

ETSU International students and the International Student Organization will host an embassy fair to share information about their home countries and cultures.

11 am - 2 pm, D.P. Culp University Center, Atrium Area

Lunch & Learn Seminar

Dr. Theresa McGarry, Associate Professor, ETSU Literature & Language, will conduct a seminar on "Scenes from Sri Lanka: Making a Modern Sinhala Language Learning System."

Public Lecture: Bob Randall

"Our Generation" - affectionately known as Uncle Bob since his last ETSU visit, Bob Randall belongs to the Yankunytjatjara First People of Australia.  He will share this new documentary about the current social and political conditions of the Australian Aboriginal peoples, a few songs, and address questions. 

7 pm, Brown Hall Auditorium, Room 112

Reception immediately following.

Study Abroad Fair

Learn about summer and semester study abroad opportunities for ETSU students. Program leaders will be available to provide information and answer questions about their various programs. Individuals from the Scholarship Office, Financial Aid and International Programs and Studies will be on hand to answer questions regarding funding and application process.

11 am - 1 pm, D.P. Culp University Center, Alumni Gallery


Passport Information Table will be available for those wishing to learn about how to acquire a passport.

Passport Photos will be available for those wishing to have a passport photo made.


International Cooking Demo

ETSU Campus Dining personal cooking demo with an International flare - Mexican Day with Carne ensu jugo, Cochinita Pibil, fideo, calabacitas, and Mexican corn on the cobb.

Public Lecture: Norris P. Sneed (Eastman) - Retired Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Communications, and Public Affairs

"The People You Meet, The Books You Read, and the Places You Go " - Mr. Sneed has extensive experience in the human resources field in industry today.

7 pm, Brown Hall Auditorium, Room 112

Reception immediately following.

Lunch & Learn Seminar

Dr. Richard Kortum, ETSU Philosophy and Humanities, will conduct a seminar on "Travels in Mongolia - the Back of Beyond" which will consist of the aspects of Mongolian arts and culture, geography, travel, and research fieldwork.

International Photo Fair features pictures taken by students, faculty & staff.  How to submit your photosView Photos submitted.  Deadline for photographs to be included on the website is November 11, 2011 at 4:30 p.m.


International / Study Abroad Student Essay Contests - Essays submissions by International students who are currently studying at ETSU and hold an F-1 or J-1 visa and current ETSU students who have studied abroad on an ETSU-sponsored program.  Monetary awards to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category.  Submit essays electronically to Janice Howell at howellj@etsu.edu by 4:30 pm, October 31, 2011.
