CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2012/2013
Submission Deadlines:

SPRING 2013 - Thursday, March 7, 2013,

These Calls for Proposals for Student-Faculty Collaborative
Grants represent the current round of competition. This program is
administered by The Honors College with funds made available from
the Honors College, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs,
and the Provost's office. Grants funded under the Fall cycle will
become available mid-January and must be expended by May of the
current fiscal year.
Grants funded under the Spring cycle will become available either
early April (for projects with immediate expenses in April - May)
or mid-July (for projects beginning late Summer or Fall);
funds will be available as noted in the award letter.
The purpose of this fund is to encourage outstanding undergraduate
students to complete an organized research project during their
senior year. In consideration of the time required for most
research, juniors also are eligible for grant awards. The maximum
award per grant will be $1,200. Please be candid with budget
submissions, because this determines the number of projects that can
be funded. The award can be used to purchase supplies, equipment,
travel (for research only -- travel grants support travel to
conferences), computer time, or for other expenses related to the
research project. Although not strictly prohibited, stipends or
faculty travel requests are not encouraged, unless special
circumstances exist. Proposals submitted will be evaluated by
members of the Honors College and selected specialists across
campus.
Formulating the particular project and writing the proposal are
expected to be joint efforts of student and mentor.
Reviewers will consider quality of the student applicant, quality of
the project, and demonstrated ability of the faculty sponsor to
produce significant research in the proposed area. A final
report is required which should outline progress made in the
project; note any presentations, manuscripts or grant proposals
derived from the project; and include comments concerning the
research experience.
Students whose research includes work with
human subjects must apply for approval of their research project by
the ETSU Institutional Review Board (IRB). Students are strongly
encouraged to apply for IRB approval at the time they submit their
Student-Faculty Collaborative Grant proposal. Funds cannot be
released until approval is granted.
It is important to consider that all funds awarded for
the current fiscal year
must be expended
no later than May
30 (purchase order deadline is May 1).
Faculty are limited to THREE (3) Student
Faculty Collaborative grants per year, unless funds are available;
check with the Director before submitting further grant
applications.
Please note that all application materials must
be submitted in paper (one copy)
and in electronic form (single .pdf file of
all materials; recommendation letters sent directly by the reference
person may be submitted separately) to the Director
of Undergraduate Research, Dr. Frosty Levy (levyf@etsu.edu).
Please email
