Funds are available to support undergraduate student travel for
presentations at professional meetings. The Office of
Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities of the Honors College will
underwrite up to $500 (per student) for students presenting a paper,
poster, performance, or participating in a formal competition at a
professional conference. Requests for funds will be considered on a
rolling basis.
Students as well as faculty should choose their venues carefully as
awards
are limited to a maximum of two meetings and $1,000 per student with
priority given to students who have not previously received funds. Offers
of supplemental
support by departments and/or colleges will be considered favorably.
To apply, the student should submit the following
materials at least three (3) weeks prior
to departure for the conference:
- letter of request (include title, conference, dates, how to contact you,
and other information you feel pertinent to your request);
- an
itemized budget;
- copy
of the meeting announcement with registration and lodging costs;
- copy
of an abstract, performance, or competition description;
- letter
of acceptance from the conference coordinator;
- letter
of recommendation from the faculty sponsor;
- statement
from the appropriate Department Chair and/or College Dean regarding
offers of supplemental funds.
Proposals for larger grants will be considered from faculty member(s)
intending to accompany a group of undergraduates presenting at a
professional meeting. These proposals may include requests for
funds to offset registration costs for students and travel (mileage
or university vehicle). Please submit letter of request,
budget request, meeting
information, a list of the students (and ETSU ID numbers) attending,
and copies of individual or group abstracts/descriptions and acceptance letter(s).
One copy of all materials should be
submitted to:
Dr. Foster Levy, Honors College, Box 70589, ETSU
Please contact Dr. Levy with your questions (levyf@etsu.edu
or call 439-6926).
