Knightrider

Knightrider is an HP compute cluster acquired in 2011. This cluster is equipped with high-speed low-latency interconnect hardware, so it is better suited for highly scalable and communication-intensive applications. According to Linpack benchmark, Knightrider cluster runs at 4 TFlops. Below are the specifications of this cluster:

  • 48 compute nodes (HP ProliantBL280c G6)
  • 1 master node (HP DL380 G7)
  • Each node has:
    • dual Intel Xeon X5650, 2.66 GHz processor
    • 12 cores
    • 48 GB memory
  • As a total, cluster has 588 processing cores and 2.3 TB of memory
  • Interconnect:
    • 4x QDR Infiniband interconnect
    • Voltaire 36-port Infiniband Switches (Non-blocking fabric)
  • Storage:
    • 30 TB central storage on 10K SAS hard drives
    • 160 GB local storage on compute nodes

Blackpearl is a Dell compute cluster acquired in 2007. The compute nodes in this cluster have high clock speeds, so it is better suited for serial and less communication-intensive applications. Below are the specifications of this cluster:

  • 60 compute nodes (Dell Poweredge 1955)
  • 1 master node (Dell Poweredge 2950)
  • Each node has:
    • dual Intel Xeon X5160, 3.0 GHz processor
    • 4 cores
    • 4 GB memory
  • As a total, cluster has 240 processing cores and 240 GB of memory
  • Interconnect:
    • 1 Gigabit Ethernet
  • Storage:
    • 4 TB central storage on 15K SAS hard drives
    • 80 GB local storage on compute nodes
