College of Medicine - Department of Internal Medicine - Dishner Chair of Excellence in Oncology – Postdoctoral Assistant – 812240.  Essential Functions: A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Internal Medicine to work in the laboratory of the Dishner Chair of Excellence in Medicine on the mechanisms of chemoprevention by chemopreventive agents in cell lines and animal models of cancer. Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a MD or PhD and at least one year of postdoctoral experience. The appointment will be mentored with the long-term goal of achieving a scientific independent program for the candidate. Areas of research interest include the role of tocopherols and tocotrienols, statins, green tea, biphosphonates and novel nutrients in cancer prevention with an emphasis on understanding the mechanisms. The candidate will work closely to build a laboratory program on the molecular targets for cancer chemoprevention strategies. Knowledge or interest in the lipid metabolism, apoptosis cholesterol and glucose pathway preferred. Department of Physics and Astronomy – Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF)Position is contingent upon grant funding.  The Department has five astronomy faculty with a range of research interests.  The PDRF will be working with Richard Ignace under a grant awarded by the NSF entitled “Tracing the Spectropolarimetric History of Circumstellar Structures from High-Mass Stars through Supernovae”.  The PDRF will also work closely with co-PI Jennifer Hoffman at the University of Denver.  The research effort is primarily theoretical in nature involving computational radiative transfer and polarization; however, there is the expectation the PDRF will be involved with obtaining and interpreting spectropolarimetric data as well.  Experience with polarization and radiative transfer or other numerical modeling is preferred, along with an interest in massive stars, stellar winds, and/or supernovae.  The starting salary will be $38,000 plus benefits, and the PDRF can have PI status on their own proposal submissions. College of Medicine - Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Research Associate - Level 8 – 823850 - REVISED AND READVERTISED. East Tennessee State University, James H. Quillen College of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is expanding its research program and is seeking candidates for a Research Associate (Postdoctoral) position. Essential Functions: Responsible for the coordination and management of the departmental research laboratories including the performance of cellular, immunology and molecular biology procedures. The successful applicant will also participate in the development and performance of various multiplex assays on the Luminex 100 platform. Qualifications: Highly motivated and creative Ph.D. or MD scientist with training and relevant research experience in developing and performance of cellular, immunological and molecular biology procedures including experience in the development and performance of multiplex assays. Applicants should have postdoctoral experience, an active publication record and documented experience in writing of grants for extramural funding. Experience in diabetes research is desirable, but not essential. ETSU employs only U.S. citizens and aliens authorized to work in the United States. A person commits the offense of misrepresentation of academic credentials who, knowing that the statement is false and with the intent to secure employment at or admission to an institution of higher education in Tennessee, represents, orally or in writing that such person:
(1) Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas from an accredited institution of higher education;
(2) Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas from a particular institution of higher education; or
(3) Has successfully completed the required course work for and has been awarded one (1) or more degrees or diplomas in a particular field or specialty from an accredited institution of higher education.
