ETSU Retirees Association

At 11:30 a.m. Betty Tester, acting for President Betty Moore, called the meeting to order. Approximately 30 members were in attendance.

Ms. Tester presented to the membership a proposed addition to the ETSURA by-laws. The addition proposed stated:

If desired, these board members (Board of Directors) may appoint an additional board member from the active ETSURA membership to serve as special legislative liaison with the state and local governing organizations in matters especially related to retired faculty and staff.

A motion was made to accept the addition, duly seconded, and endorsed by acclamation.

It was announced that there would be upcoming meetings regarding long term care by the state of Tennessee.

It was announced that the annual picnic will be on June 26 at the usual place. The cost will be $4 per person.

Dr. Floyd Edwards, president-elect of the Tennessee Retired Teachers presented information about his organization.  He indicated that they have a wide membership (in excess of 9,000) and those members present were invited to join.  He announced that the Council of Pensions and Retirements took no action on an increase in the state contribution for health insurance this year because of the state financial crisis.  However, this will be automatically considered next year.  He announced that the COLA for next year is 2.4%.

An appeal was made that the membership support the AARP's Nursing Home Care Reform Act now.

Dr. Fisher presented several documents to the membership for information.  These included:

1. State Retired Payroll:  July 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002
2. Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System net assets
3. A Report of the Committee on Academic Policies and Programs
4. Second draft of report of Committee on the Retiree Outreach Program of the Faculty Senate.  The Faculty Senate would like to invite selected retirees to be a part of the Retiree Outreach Program.

Mr. Coleman presented a document and briefly described progress on developing an ETSU Army ROTC Veteran's Memorial project.

There being no other actions or announcements, the meeting was adjourned.
