Several comments were made related to retirees outreach.  A fundraiser letter to remind members to make a donation to the scholarship fund was discussed.  It was decided that a letter similar to the one sent one year ago should be sent to retirees. Dorman Stout, Betty Tester and Diana McClay will create and send a letter.  An ETSURA newsletter will be sent very shortly.

George Granger reported that help with the student election was completed.  There were only three votes cast at the Bristol and Kingsport locations.  The volunteers at Johnson City were very busy.

LIAISON COMMITTEE:  Dr. William Fisher, Chair

Dr. Fisher presented information about the State of Tennessee Tax Structure Study Commission and a meeting sponsored by them held in Kingsport on November 6.  He also presented further information on Tennesseans for Fair Taxation.  He had attended a meeting and shared tax information he received at that meeting.  Historical and present information about Federal Medicare insurance premiums was distributed.  Information from the New York Times about cost of textbooks for students was distributed, indicating the fast-rising cost of books.  Finally information on drugs from Canada was distributed.

ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION

Art Hougland indicated he would like to get the West Side Group going again.  He was apprised of the activities already underway to restore this group, and his cooperation and help in this area was welcomed.

There will, by custom, be no meeting in December.  There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:23 p.m.  The members enjoyed, with thanks, a Thanksgiving cake which had been supplied by Joan Dressel.

Respectfully submitted,

Charles L. Votaw

Secretary
