| On July 19, 1998 the Career
Skills Enhancement Program received a Sequoyah Literacy
Award given by the Tennessee Historical Commission in
Nashville, Tennessee. The award was one of only two
Administrative Service Sequoyah awards given to adult
education programs in the entire state of Tennessee. The
award recognizes CSEP "for providing for a more literate
Tennessee."
The award selection criteria included
demonstrating:
- a strong commitment to the importance and
improvement of literacy;
- ongoing partnership and collaboration in
leadership with other
community-based organizations;
- public awareness efforts for the promotion of
literacy efforts;
- accomplishments in raising the level of literacy
at the local and state
level.
