Immigration
East Tennessee State University supports H1B and other work visas
for our employees. We will be happy to assist with the visa
application once an employment contract has been signed. Due
to the complexity and frequent changes to immigration laws, it is
incumbent on the employee to engage the services of legal counsel
to prepare the application. We will pay the petition and
fraud prevention fee for the H1B. Legal fees, premium
processing fees or other expenses associated with the filing will
be the responsibility of the employee, unless there is a
signed immigration agreement with the department which has been
generated by the Office of Human Resources. East Tennessee
State University may also support a PERM (green card) application
on behalf of the employee. This is negotiated between the
employee and the departmental chair. Labor certification
costs are paid by the employing department if the PERM is
supported. A fully executed Immigration Expense Agreement
must be generated by the Office of Human Resources prior to
beginning this process.
Once an attorney is selected for either of these processes,
please provide all contact information to Ms. Tammy S. Hamm,
Director, Office of Human Resources. Ms. Hamm will work with
the attorney to address the specifics of the petition and obtain
required signatures on behalf of the University. For
immigration purposes, all documents may only be signed by the
University’s official immigration representative.
If you require additional information regarding H1B or PERM
petitions, feel free to contact Ms. Hamm at
hammt@etsu.edu or 423-439-5394.
