DEFINITION

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in investigating and reporting news. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

- Develops and collects information for feature stories, articles and releases.

- Conducts personal interviews.

- Maintains and exploits news sources and contacts.

- Cross checks and verifies sources and information.

- Writes clear, concise, accurate news stories.

- Reviews and selects photographs.

- Recommends publicity and publication for items of news value.

- Makes arrangements and preparations for media coverage of conferences, lectures, events and other activities.

- Attends press conferences and/or tapes radio releases.

- Performs newsroom work such as assigning stories to students for composition, editing and proofing items for publication, and typing news releases, memos, invitations, etc.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

- Knowledge of production of films and electronic media productions.

- Ability to write news releases and feature articles.

- Verbal expression.

- Willingness to work and willingness to work with others.

- Administrative and supervisory ability.

- Verbal comprehension.
 

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Degree in journalism or a related field preferred; plus demonstrate successful work experience in writing news releases and feature articles; working production of films and/or other activities in electronic media productions.
