Function of Position

Responsible to the Senior Associate Vice President/Dean of Students for directing and coordinating a comprehensive university intramural/physical recreational program based on five activity components: fitness, intramurals, non-credit instruction, outdoor adventure and sports clubs; training, supervising and evaluating office personnel; overseeing utilization of the office budget; planning long and short term goals and activities; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Directs the overall planning, supervision and coordination of a comprehensive recreational sports program.

- Manages facilities.

- Plans, implements and evaluates campus recreation programs.

- Supervises and trains office staff.

Secondary Functions

- Conducts applied research.

- Participates in appropriate professional associations.

- Serves on university committees.

- Teaches academic classes.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of college student leisure trends.

- Knowledge of current trends in campus recreation programming.

- Knowledge of equipment bidding and purchasing.

- Knowledge of recreational facility design, maintenance, management and operations.

- Knowledge of student development and learning.

- Knowledge of budget management.

- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate recreational programs and activities.

- Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to conduct long range planning.

- Ability to resolve conflicts.

- Ability to maintain accurate records.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in exercise science, physical education, recreation, sports administration, student personnel services or related field; five years experience in campus recreation required.
