Function of Position
This position is responsible to the Systems Support Manager for the management,
monitoring and support of a server computing environment and network resources
utilized by the students, faculty and staff at ETSU.
Basic responsibilities involve the design, implementation and support of
a computing environment using technologies such as e-mail, network storage, and
associated security. Advanced
responsibilities include the creation and/or management of computer accounts in
a Windows 2003 Active Directory or Oracle 9i/10g environment through knowledge
of best practices and basic programming, proactive monitoring of the server
hardware infrastructure, network services and network infrastructure including
routers, switches and wireless access points.
User support tasks are required during the advisement process, analytical
process, and troubleshooting process and in the administration of specialized
software utilized by users or departments of the University.
Essential Functions

Maintains resource management (management of user accounts, access to resources
including but no limited to; e-mail, network storage, online collaboration
systems, distribution lists).
Monitors network devices, server hardware and network resources

Administers Oracle databases used by Banner, Luminis, and LDI for e-procurement.

Coordinates and distributes software updates for Microsoft operation systems and
applications.
Secondary Functions
-
Performs Administration of Windows Server 2000/2003 software and associated
hardware.

Performs administration of Microsoft products and network services (IIS,
SQL, Exchange, Project, Active Directory, FTP, DHCP, DNS, FPSE).

Performs administration of third party products (AppWorx, LDI for e-procurement,
fsaAtlas, Reference Manager).

Manages, monitors and supports a server computing environment and network
resources utilized by students, faculty and staff.

Designs, implements and supports a computing environment using technologies such
as e-mail, network storage, and associated security.

Creates and/or maintains computer accounts in a Windows 2003 Active Directory or
Oracle 9i/10g environment through knowledge of best practices and basic
programming, proactive monitoring of the server hardware infrastructure, network
services and network infrastructure including roughters, switches and wireless
access points.

Provides user support tasks during the advisement process, analytical process,
and troubleshooting process and in the administration of specialized software
utilized by users or departments of the University.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
-
Knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems (98, 2000, XP, Vista),
Windows server operating systems (NT, 2000, 2003), Windows 2003 Active
Directory, Windows security, Microsoft Exchange 2003, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft
Internet Information Server, Oracle 9i and 10g databases, Oracle backup &
recovery, Oracle performance tuning, Windows clustering technologies, Microsoft
Software Update Services.

Knowledge of the Sun Solaris 9 operating system, networking technologies
and design, RedHat Linux operating system, DNS, DHCP, FTP, WINS, Intranet portal
software, backup and recovery strategies, storage area networks, Microsoft
Project server, media streaming technologies such as Real and Windows media,
TCP/IP protocol, SMTP protocol, POP protocol, IMAP protocol.
Supervision Given and Received
Performs under general supervision.
Plans and arranges own work which is directed toward an established objective.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science required; Master of Science in Computer Science preferred; 2 years experience; Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP).
