potential; Function of Position Responsible to the University President for serving as the senior administrative officer for the university advancement program; administrating and managing all development and fundraising, alumni affairs and community relations programs; serving as President of University Foundation and coordinating all activities of the University Foundation Board of Directors and membership; supervising administrative and classified personnel; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Plans and directs all university advancement activities of the university's nine college and schools. - Develops and manages a development program including a major fund-raising campaign with gifts and grants from corporations, foundations, alumni, individuals and government; planned giving and annual giving programs; a capital campaign; and an endowment. - Develops and manages an active and worldwide alumni program. - Develops and manages a community relations program, representing the university with external constituents, legislative members and various governmental entities. - Serves as President of University Foundation and coordinates all activities of the University Foundation Board of Directors and membership. - Manages two private corporations. - Participates with the University President and senior staff in planning, policy making and executive leadership of the university. - Advises the University President in shaping university advancement policies, management, short-range and long-range planning. Effectively integrates the Office of the President in fund-raising activities. - Directs the operation and staffing of the University Advancement Division, including the Office of Development and the Office of Alumni Affairs. - Coordinates the university advancement function with State agencies as required by the University President. Secondary Functions - Administers and manages the University Advancement record management system. - Directs the identification, enlistment, training and activity of all volunteers and advisory boards. - Insures compliance regarding state, federal, and Tennessee Board of Regents guidelines and laws. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and investment principles. - Knowledge and ability to prepare marketing and public relations programs. - Knowledge of development and fund raising techniques. - Knowledge of university and Tennessee Board of Regents policies and procedures. - Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals and groups including students, faculty, administrators, alumni, potential donors and corporate and government leaders. - Ability to organize and direct a staff of professional and administrative personnel. - Ability to effectively communicate. - Ability to make long-range plans and policy decisions. Supervision Given and Received Reports directly to the University President and maintains broad discretionary authority to implement general objectives and devise specific means for their achievement. Supervises administrative and classified employees. Minimum Qualifications Earned doctorate required; seven to 10 years of progressively responsible and broad based development experience in an academic setting required; proven track record as senior level fund raiser required; excellent communication skills required.
