Function of Position

 

The Director of Admissions provides supervision to the professional and support staff in the Office of Admissions and reports to the Vice-Provost, Enrollment Services.  Duties include: successful recruitment and enrollment of first-time freshman and transfer students, effective budget management, conversion of current system practices to Banner, hiring, training, and supervision of staff, development of reports and data management, implementation/management of Banner Self-Service for admissions, application of TBR and ETSU admissions policies, evaluation of domestic and international academic credentials, development of print and electronic communications, publication development, dual enrollment promotion, credential evaluation of intercollegiate athletes, and successful high school and college relations.  The position requires an individual with a strong campus presence, leadership ability, professionalism, commitment to collaborative teamwork, excellent communication and presentation skills, strong work ethic, the ability to manage multiple tasks and the ability to use technology to support the functions of the Office of Admissions.

 

Essential Functions

- Interprets and applies TBR policy pertaining to admission of undergraduate students.

- Supervises professional and support staff.

- Supervises Banner implementation and maintenance.

- Coordinates recruitment activities including a comprehensive program of high school and community college visitation and on-campus functions.

- Evaluates academic credentials with regard to admission and scholarship qualification.

- Acts as a liaison between the university and other constituencies (schools and community).

- Utilizes Student Information System and FOCUS computer language.

- Reviews trend analysis and demographic data in evaluating enrollment patterns and goals.

- Prepares reports and survey responses.

- Prepares and manages admissions budget.

- Conducts student interviews and meets with individuals, families and groups regarding opportunities available through ETSU.

-Complies with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledges this compliance as part of an annual evaluation process.

-Signs an NCAA Compliance Statement annually.

 

Secondary Functions

 

- Evaluates prospective student-athletes' academic credentials with regard to admissibility to ETSU.

- Determines fee payment status - residency.

- Assists in the development of all recruitment publications/correspondence.

- Assists in the planning of advertising and other promotional activities designed to enhance enrollment.

- Seeks innovative uses of technological advances to enhance enrollment.

- Serves on a variety of university committees.

- Develops familiarity with various types of computer software.

- Participates as a member of the Tennessee Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, the Watauga Counseling Association, and the Tennessee Board of Regents Admissions and Records Advisory Committee.

- Counsels undergraduate students.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of computing systems and data management.

- Knowledge of a comprehensive recruitment program.

- Knowledge of university programs, policies and procedures.

- Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents' policy applicable to student admissions.

- Knowledge of marketing techniques for higher education.

- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty to promote positive relations and encourage enrollment.

- Ability to effectively market admission/recruitment programs.

Supervision Given and Received

Initiates programs under general direction, working from policies and general objectives. Responsible for supervision of professional and classified personnel.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Master’s degree in counseling, educational leadership and policy analysis, student services or related field; five years progressive training; five years progressive experience.
