Function of Position

Responsible to the University President for serving as the chief administrative officer of the university; serving as a member of the President's Senior Staff along with the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Business and Finance, Vice President for Health Affairs and Vice President for University Advancement; overseeing Facility Planning, Human Resources, Information Technology, Student Affairs and Public Safety; serving as a liaison between the President and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Department of Internal Audit; performing other duties as assigned by the President.

Essential Functions

-Directs the University's planning and effectiveness efforts; serves as co-chair of the University Strategic Planning and Effectiveness Committee; responsible for facility planning and space allocation.

-Provides vision, direction, fiscal and personnel management for all Human Resources activity.

-Provides vision, direction, fiscal and personnel management for all Information Technology activity.

-Works collaboratively with the Chief Student Affairs Officer as the primary advocate for students.

-Provides vision, direction, fiscal and personnel management for all Public Safety activity.

-Serves as the liaison between the President and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics for operational and tactical activity.

-Serves as the liaison between the President and the Office of Internal Audit for operational activity.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of trends and best practices in higher education.

-Knowledge of strategic planning and continuous improvement practices and ability to facilitate organizational change and development.

-Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues.

-Knowledge of Human Resource practices and activities.

-Knowledge of trends and best practices in Information Technology.

-Knowledge of trends and best practices in student affairs and student development.

-Knowledge of Public Safety practices and activities.

Supervision Given and Received

Initiates broad programs under general direction, working from policies and general objectives.  Supervises administrative and classified employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate degree from an accredited institution; record of progressive leadership with a minimum of five years experience in higher education administration at a comprehensive university; experience in personnel and fiscal management.
