Position Title:  Strength Coach/Event Coordinator

Function of Position

Responsible to the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations/Senior Woman Administrator for developing and implementing team an individual conditioning programs for student-athletes participating in all sports; and performing other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-        Designs the total conditioning program (including weight training and cardiovascular conditioning) applicable to all sports during pre-season, in-season and off-season periods.

-        Designs separate programs of weight training, running, flexibility or secondary rehabilitation (in conjunction with the Head Athletic Trainer) to meet the needs of individual position areas.

-        Designs and conducts testing programs for each sport as developed by the head coach and the head athletic trainer to determine the effectiveness of conditioning regimes and certain fitness developments; assists coaches in evaluating individual player performance and potential.

-        Conducts research to find new trends and techniques in player motivation, conditioning and fitness evaluation.

-        Ensures proper supervision of athletes in the weight room, including instruction in techniques of training with machines and free-weights, as well as safety procedures; schedules team and individual use of facilities.

-        Ensures proper maintenance and repair of equipment in the weight room within the limitations of the university budget and time frame of manufacturers in providing replacement or repaired equipment; ensures cleaning of equipment and weight room.

-        Participates in recruiting programs, providing prospective student-athletes with an explanation of the conditioning program.

-        Attends practice sessions and games as requested by head coach, within staffing limitations.

-        Monitors use of weight room by student-athletes and others; maintains liability waivers/releases on all authorized users.

-        Performs event management duties as assigned.

-        Remains in full compliance with NCAA, University, and Southern Conference rules.

-        Complies with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledges this compliance as part of an annual evaluation process.

-        Signs an NCAA Compliance Statement annually.

Secondary Functions

-        Supervises graduate and student assistants.

-        Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-        Knowledge of a variety of weight and exercise programs and methods.

-        Ability to develop weight and exercise programs for specific purposes.

-        Ability to consult with coaches and athletes with specific goals and objectives in mind.

-        Ability to supervise weight room operation and use.

-        Ability to maintain all Weight Room equipment as required.

-        Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and athletes.

-        Ability to diagnose specific problems regarding athletic performance and implement proper programs of exercise for optimum performance. 

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in physical education or related area of concentration required; three years strength conditioning experience on the collegiate level required; must be certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
