Function of Position
Responsible to the Associate Athletic Director for Communications for
assistance with public relations and publicity for the university’s athletics
program including general office productions, media and community relations,
event management, production of radio, television and internet broadcasts; and
performing other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions

Assists
the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations with all aspects of the
athletic media relations department including managerial oversight for the
department’s interns and graduate assistants, web sit maintenance, and radio and
television networks.

Direct
managerial control over all functions of the Buccaneer Sports Network, including
production of radio, television and Internet broadcasts, securing affiliate
stations, and organizing student help.

Serves
as the play-by-play voice for all broadcasts of ETSU intercollegiate athletics
and host of “Inside Buc Sports” television show, with duties that include on-air
and production responsibilities.

Serves
as an adjunct professor in the Department of Communication’s Broadcasting
Division, teaching classes in sports broadcasting/production, while also
overseeing practicum and internship students in that area.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with local and state media representatives through written and verbal communications.

Serves
as liaison between university coaches and student-athletes and the local, state,
and national media by coordinating interview requests, setting up press
conferences, and media days, as needed.

Coordinates and supervises day-to-day activities of the SID assistants and
various student assistants.

Handles
requests and questions on the phone and in person from fans, students, alumni,
and members of the general public regarding the university, its sports programs,
student-athletes and coaches.

Promotes individual student-athletes for conference, regional, and national
awards and honors.

Travels
with selected sports programs to provide coverage of events and assistance with
media operations as assigned.

Remains
in full compliance with NCAA, University, and Atlantic-Sun Conference rules.
Complies with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledges this
compliance as part of an annual evaluation process.

Signs
an NCAA Compliance Statement annually.

Performs under general supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications with emphasis in Broadcasting or
related field required. Minimum of
five years experience in radio and television production required; minimum of
four years experience working as play-by-play voice at the collegiate level
required; minimum of two years experience teaching at the college level
required.
