Function of Position
This position is responsible to the Systems Support Manager for planning,
design, administration and integration of the ETSU WindowsNT/2K/2K3 network with
the campus network infrastructure and other computer systems including but not
limited to learning management systems (Blackboard and Desire2Learn), Microsoft
SQL Server, Symantec AntiVirus, and backup software.
This position is also responsible for backup administrative duties on the
VMS based Alpha servers and Unix\Linux servers and SAN.
Essential Functions
-
Performs systems Administration of the ETSU Windows NT/2K/2K3 network to
include: LMS (Bb & D2L), email gateways, antivirus and backup servers.

Performs integration of various systems with the ETSU Windows NT/2K/2K3
network.
Plans and Designs the ETSU Windows NT/2K/2K3 network.

Diagnoses, troubleshoots and performance tunes systems on the ETSU
Windows NT/2K/2K3 network.
Performs system scripting.
Secondary Functions
-
Performs backup duties on the VMS bases Alpha server, Unix/Linux servers
and SAN (Storage Area Network).
Documents system procedures.
Performs other related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
-
Knowledge of Windows NT/2K/2K3, VMS, Apple and Unix/Linux operating
systems.

Knowledge of TCP/IP and administration of Domain Controllers, DHCP, WINS
and DNS servers.
-
Knowledge of HTML, ASP, VB and VB script.
-
Knowledge of Cisco Routers and Switches.
-
Knowledge of standard backup procedures and support backup operations
including tape backup, scheduling and restorations.
-
Knowledge of Microsoft Office components.
-
Knowledge of various application server administrations.
-
Ability to manage and configure the Microsoft Internet Information Server
(IIS), Apache web servers, Microsoft SQL database servers, MS Exchange 2000
cluster with multiple front/backend servers, Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Symantec
Enterprise Antivirus, CA Brightstor Symantec Mail Security for SMTP.

Ability to troubleshoot hardware including EMC Clariion SAN, RAM, HD, and
peripheral installation, replacement or upgrades, BIOS and hardware controller
flashes, RAID fault tolerant disk configurations.
Supervision Given and Received
Performs under general supervision.
Plans and arranges own work which is directed toward an established objective.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field required; 3-5 years
experience in an Open VMS environment required; 5 or more years of system
administration experience with Windows NT/2K/2K3 at the enterprise level
required; Microsoft Windows Active Directory Administration, Microsoft Active
Directory Design, Microsoft Design Secure Network Infrastructures, Microsoft SQL
Administration training; MCSE or MCP, A+ license are required.
