potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director for supervising the office counseling area; developing and implementing staff training activities; counseling students and determining student appeals; working with the Director to develop and update publications; serving as liaison with other offices and media; working with the Director and Assistant Director for Technical Services to develop strategies and implement office policies and procedures that promote teamwork and benefit students, staff and the institution; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions -Directs the supervision of the counseling area of the office. -Works closely with the Director and Assistant Director, Technical Services, to ensure teamwork and good communication between all areas of the financial aid office. -Trains and updates all financial aid staff on pertinent regulatory issues and compliance procedures on a regular basis. -Counsels with students, parents and others. -Supervises and works with the counseling coordinator to resolve counseling issues with students and families. -Hears and determines outcome of student appeals which could not be resolved by the counselor or counseling coordinator. -Serves as liaison with student services, other institutional offices, and media as required. Secondary Functions -Works with the Director and Assistant Director, Technical Services, to develop awarding strategies and to implement office policies and procedures. -Assists the Director in developing publications and other printed materials. -Disseminates financial aid information to staff, students, other university constituencies, as well as community organizations. -Serves as chair of the Athletic Appeals Committee. -Maintains library of reference materials for financial aid staff. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities -Knowledge of and ability to interpret and communicate regulations governing state and federal student financial aid programs. -Knowledge of and ability to work with computerized financial aid system. -Ability to work as part of a team and promote teamwork within the office. -Ability to supervise, evaluate and correct counseling staff. -Ability to counsel students and parents. -Ability to communicate effectively with all constituencies. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Directly supervises administrative employee. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; three years of financial aid experience.
