Function of Position

 

Responsible to the User Services Manager for the maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of computer equipment within assigned zone of coverage.  These duties include determining the source of issues user may encounter (malware, spyware, virus, corrupt operating system, network drives, hardware failure, etc.) and repairing the problem or referring the user to the proper department to have the issue resolved.  The position may also recommend hardware and software upgrades (printer, video cards, etc.) to users and assist them in installing the upgrades.  The position is also responsible for the development and maintenance of Windows imaging process that allows a non-functional computer to be repaired and redeployed in greatly reduced time as well as insuring a uniform computer platform across the university.

 

Essential Functions

 

-        Repairs and maintains computers in user’s offices.

-        Develops and maintains Windows images for deployment on all university computers.

 

Secondary Functions

 

-        Works on special projects (computers roll outs, etc.)

-        Fulfills MEAC contract (images and repairs for MEAC computers).

-        Performs other imaging needs on a per request basis.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

-        Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and office applications.

-        Ability to understand concepts involved in software design and development so new software can be understood in a minimum amount of time.

-        Knowledge of current security exploits in common software packages.

 

Supervision Given and Received

 

Performs under general supervision.  Plans and arranges own work which is directed toward an established objective.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; 3-5 years of experience.
