potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director of Academic Technology Support for providing support to users in academic or administrative departments by assessing, training and assisting with the utilization, application and integration of hardware and software solutions into the instructional setting; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions -Consults with supervisors, faculty, staff, chairs and deans to gather information about instructional needs. -Designs or writes training materials and user documentation to meet instructional and institutional needs. -Designs training materials to interface with other existing or planned training programs. -Conducts training workshops, primarily on technology related topics. -Converts designs and specifications into training programs. -Analyzes software and hardware operation to determine most effective procedures for inclusion into training materials. -Reviews user and technical documentation written by others to confirm consistency with program operations. -Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries from individual requesters or via help desk requests regarding training related errors, problems, or questions with applications; revises help desk documentation for reporting corrections enhancements and resolutions. -Conducts one-on-one assistance to faculty and staff on how to apply instructional or administrative software; trains end users or technical support staff to use and support hardware and software. -Coordinates with other AULs about training program revisions. Secondary Functions -Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities -Knowledge of microcomputer software applications. -Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. -Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. -Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. -Ability to make formal training presentations. -Ability to communicate effectively. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred; two years related experience as a trainer or educator required, preferably in an academic setting; experience with Microsoft Office products required; experience with Blackboard or WebCT course management systems and web development including asp and SQL preferred..
