potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director of Academic Technology Support for providing support to users in academic or administrative departments by assessing, training and assisting with the utilization, application and integration of hardware and software solutions into the instructional setting; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions -Consults with faculty and staff to gather information about instructional needs. -Designs and develops training materials and user documentation to meet instructional and institutional needs. -Designs and develops comprehensive training programs to meet the current and future needs of staff and faculty as they integrate academic technology into the classroom and the workplace. -Conducts training workshops, primarily on technology related topics. -Consults with department representatives and helps develop special projects toward achieving university strategic goals. -Analyzes software and hardware operation to determine most effective procedures for inclusion into training materials. -Reviews user and technical documentation written by others to confirm consistency with program objectives. -Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries from individuals or via help desk referrals regarding problems or questions with applications. -Conducts one-on-one assistance with faculty and staff regarding instructional or administrative software; trains end users or technical support staff to use and support hardware and software. -Designs, develops, and implements instructional technology development activities and projects that support the information technology strategic plan. -Provides technology development activities and support for web-based and web-enhanced course management systems. -Identifies and coordinates resources related to faculty and staff technology development activities. -Identifies strategies to increase the visibility of technology resources and support available to faculty and staff. -Designs, develops, and implements strategies that promote collegial exchange, instructional support, consultation, and professional development activities related to the integration of technology into instruction. -Reviews, improves, and revises academic technology workshop materials and tutorials. -Develops multimedia tutorials to coordinate with academic technology workshops. -Develops and publishes web resources related to current research and literature in the field of computing technology in education. -Participates in professional development activities to enhance skills and abilities related to computer applications and adult education principles. Secondary Functions -Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities -Knowledge of microcomputer software applications. -Knowledge of the use of technology in instructional design. -Ability to design and develop instructional materials, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. -Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. -Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. -Ability to make formal training presentations. -Ability to communicate effectively. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred; two years related experience as a trainer or educator required, preferably in an academic setting; experience with Microsoft Office products required; experience with Blackboard or WebCT course management systems and web development including asp and SQL preferred..
